I did Koko Head Trail with my friend Natasha (the one I always seem to hike with). The story is that there is some sort of military facility on top of this crater's ridge and that they built a railroad track to easily transport artillery, etc up the STEEP incline. Now that it is closed down you use the railroad tracks as stairs up. Over 11,000 stairs.
But first, Natasha just learned to drive stick this week, so here she is getting us there in her "new" Jeep...

If you look closely you can see a line up the center of that mountain, that's our trail but it's a mile away yet.
And we begin!
About 2/3 up the ground drops out underneath the track. Looks fun, huh?

The cove here is Hanauma Bay, famous for snorkeling. It's actually not great snorkeling, Shark's cove should be better. We'll try it when the waves aren't so huge.
We didn't finish the hike. We didn't even start until 11:30 so it was WAY too sunny and hot out there and I banged my knee last night so the stairs were a little painful. We may try it again some time when we can start earlier.
